OPEN WOD 13.1

Oh WowwwW! The Opens are here already! For those of you that are unfamiliar with the Opens, it is a worldwide CrossFit competition. The top 48 men and 48 women, and the top 30 teams from each region move on to the Regional Competition, which for the Northeast is May 10th,11th, and 12th. Last year CrossFit Southie finished 3rd in the Open, and second at the regional. We then traveled to LA for the CrossFit Games, we hope to make it back there this year.

So what does this mean for of you? Even if you do not consider yourself a competitor or are new to CrossFit, does not mean you shouldn’t sign up for the Open. Every Thursday for the next 5 weeks we will be doing the Open WODs in classes. If you are going to be doing the WODs anyways, why not submit your scores? Both of my brothers and mom are doing the Open. One of my brothers is in the Navy and lives in Jacksonville, Florida and my other brother and my mom both belong to BayState CrossFit in Plymouth. During the 5 weeks we will be doing the WODs in different places at different times, BUT we can measure up against eachother via the CrossFit Games website. It’s going to be really fun! You should get in on the fun too. To create a profile and register, please click here. Right now CrossFit NYC is in the lead with 280 participants, and CrossFit Southie 33rd in the world with 118 participants. How cool would it be to get closer to the top?! Help out the team by registering πŸ™‚

Every Sunday for the next 5 weeks we are offering a retest that is separate from the classes on Sundays at noon. For those of you that are planning on doing the Opens and either cannot complete the WOD today and/or would like to retest on Sunday at 12pm, please click here.

Good luck to everyone!

What a team…just seeing that Goose, Pat, and Hyatt all got 167. Awesome work!
And as of my typing this, my pals Andrea & Julie in the Top 10 in the NE!!
As for me, I’m nowhere near to a 135lb snatch yet, so 100 was what I got. My time after completing the 75lb snatches was 7:04. Am I crazy that I want to try this again when I’m on vacation in Vegas to shave 10-15 seconds off this to push me up the (bottom of the) leaderboard a bit?!

Keep up the great work everyone! Go CFS!

    HOOTY! (shout outs to Crusty)

I’ve been out of commission for 2 weeks, today was my first day back and I’m PSYCHED. Caught something flu-like that lasted for a few days and led to a cough that WOULD NOT go away. I’m OCD, literally the first time since 2006 that I missed time like that. It’s kind of crazy how much more free time you have when you’re not spending it at the gym, ‘so this is what normal people’s lives are like?’ Not gonna lie, I enjoyed it. I think I beat every xbox game that came out the last couple months, nerds get at me.

The new tie-breaker system is cool, I’m into the granularity that we’ll get in the rankings. I wonder if it’s going to be another opportunity for human mistakes/cheating though, but I guess that doesn’t matter since every single rep is an opportunity for unsavory acts. Scumbags gonna scum.

    13.1: 114 Rx

I could feel that my body was still wiped but every 135# snatch felt like an accomplishment, FEELS GOODMAN. Shout outs to my judging partner Rob who had this absolutely gutsy finish to get a 20th 135# snatch. I did 12.1 with him, felt right doing 13.1 with him too.

Oh and Eric, cool Froning picture, but that pic of you with Skrillex
might be even more CROSSFIT. I mean, there was definitely a time where
every other song in the gym was some sort of Skrillex remix.

Alec, glad to hear that you’re giving it another go. You were so close on that first 165lb snatch attempt and I have no doubt that you have the ability to hit it (and possibly a few more) on Sunday. I suspect that one successful rep would differentiate you from hundreds of competitors (if not more). Good luck!

150- finished the first 165lb snatch about 0.1 seconds after the bell rang. I got another appointment with this bad boy on Sunday!

I agree with Mike, 135 felt much heavier than normal!

Props to RIO$$ for putting up a new P-aaah SEVEN TIMES at the end of this bad boy

122 RX. I think Goose put a little extra weight in those 45’s, because 135 felt really heavy!
