Mel Olinito

We first met Mel this spring after she had her second child. Mel along with two other members (Emily Woods and Sara Fleiss) met with Chris and I twice a week. We would do a lot of running, burpees, box jumps, light kettle bell swings, and light dumbell thrusters. All of Mel’s baby weight fell right off. By mid-summer she was looking absolutely fabulous. We told Mel about CrossFit and encouraged her to try it out. She was hesitant at first because the workouts were shorter than the endurance workouts we did during our small group sessions, and the pull-ups and weightlifting was completely foreign to her. Mel took the plunge anyways and showed up the first day we opened. She struggled with the pull-ups with the purple band, but blew through the running and the burpees. Since that day Mel has been here 2 times a week, every week. Thrusters with the 33lb barbell were hard when she started, and now she does 65lbs during workouts. After she mastered pull-ups on the purple band she progressed to the red band, and can now do pull-ups unassisted. She can jerk 95lbs over her head and deadlift 185lbs for several reps. Mel almost always does the L3 workout as prescribed, she is strong and fast. Not bad for a mother of 2 with only 8 weeks of training.

Hard work deserves recognition. Mel gives 110% every time she comes in. We hope to recognize a couple of athletes each month for their progress and hard work.
