Earth and Fire

Powerhouse power snatching

When we first were discussing integrating yoga into our program someone said to Kim “crossfit and yoga are completely opposite principles”, I understood what he was saying yoga is serene and about lengthening and healing your body, and crossfit is intense with blaring music, bloody shins, torn hands, and heavy lifting. Kim had the most insightful response, “They compliment each other perfectly, it’s like the fire and the earth. Β It’s true. As CrossFitters we need that adrenaline rush, we crave the challenge to push ourselves to our limits, it’s what keeps us coming back day after day. Yoga is a great way to help repair your body for the next week of workouts. Every time you do a WOD and you are inflexible in the movements you are fighting against yourself. If you can move better then your times will improve significantly. Look at Coach Goose, he wouldn’t be able to beat guys that are twice his size in WODs if he wasn’t maximizing his performance through his mobility.

The yoga classes were really successful this weekend. I know there were 15 of us on Saturday and a good group on Sunday. I absolutely loved the class, Kim does an excellent job. I could not believe how good I felt afterwards. Don’t miss out!

My first ever yoga experience was Kim’s CFS Yoga class on Sunday and it was amazing. Not only did I get a great workout in a different way I was forced to really concentration on body awareness and breathing, both of which I plan on transferring into my regular WODs. Kim is a great teacher. She answered all my questions, took the time to perfect positions and her soothing voice/choice of music put me to sleep at the end! Left there feeling great. Keep an open mind, and take advantage of the resources CFSouthie has to offer.

Great post…will have to check out yoga this wknd.

Meetings ran late Monday so could not make it to the 7:30pm session but grabbed a workout at Crossfit Marlborough: 21-15-9 C&J (full squat) @ 95#, KB swings @ 45#, and 20# ball slams in 15:29. It was a solid workout but there is no place like home…
